Purattu Film Production
Purattu Film Production is an independent production company based in Toronto and Baghdad, Iraq, focusing on creating thought-provoking films that shed light on the society and tell deeply human stories. The company aspires to support new filmmakers and promote cultural and artistic exchange between Canada, Middle East, and Europe.
Purattu’s work includes an award-winning feature “Hanging Gardens” by Ahmed Yassin Al-Daradji. The film premiered in the Horizons section at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, and it was the first Iraqi film ever to be selected by the Venice Festival. It was later awarded best film at the 2022 Red Sea International Film Festival. It was selected as the Iraqi entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. Their work also includes numerous short films, and several features in development – “Madness and Honey Days”, by Ahmed Yassin Al-Daradji, “The Great Method” by Joshua David Pivato, and “Red Bus in Baghdad” by Ali Saeed.
